It’s June! Apparently March, April and May either didn’t really happen, or it has been 588 days since March 15th – we can’t be sure. All we know right now is that we are approaching the middle of the year and we have been sorely missing some of our favorite local San Francisco stores. In the spirit of the world opening up (slightly) again, we wanted to highlight some of our favorite spots that are planning to be open soon, or are already waiting for that curbside pick-up order!
This neat little shop by the ocean on Noriega street has been curated with all those unique, gift friendly goods. There is a ton of Outer Sunset love in this shop – they’ve got screen printed t-shirts and sweatshirts to sport your pride, key chains and locally made designer jewelry with the perfect rustic-chic combo. Also a woman run an owned shop, which we love to see!

Another Outer Sunset spot (our HQ is just a couple blocks away so one could say we are biased) and the sweetest bookstore you ever did see. The staff there are super knowledgeable when it comes to book recommendations and the collection they’ve got on display (as well as the commentary and descriptions to go along with it) are on point and very current. They’ve also got a great kids book selection and some gifting goods in the back of the store. If you want to take a book outside and read it for a bit, their backyard chill zone is even enviable by the best in the outer sunset. With the Amazons of the world, this store is a sure keeper and a small business we definitely want to support.

Post Script SF
New kid on the block alert! This gift shop opened up just a couple of months before the lockdown – talk about timing – but the owner Chandler Tang’s curation of objects are timeless. Her instagram says that she focuses on items that “inspire surprise and delight”. Think notebooks that make writing fun, ceramics that will fulfill either your monochrom or terrazzo dreams, toothbrushes taht will make you want to brush more than 6 times a day, or Jewlery that will complete your california desert-dweller look. And since SF is slated to be in shelter in place indefinitely, may as well try out one of those color gradient puzzles that will take you 3 years to complete.

Plants and Friends
Just going to put this out there – plant shops should be considered ESSENTIAL BUSINESS! Let’s be real – you’ve started talking to your plants since quarantine and they now serve a larger purpose than to look nice and supply you with oxygen… That’s why you need Plants and Friends, an overflowing shop of green with all the warm and fuzzy feelings. They’ve got plants for all kinds of indoor situations (low light, indirect bright light etc…) and can make suggestions for which plants will be best suited for your environment. Fun fact, we liked this plant shop so much we decided to outfit our first Brick and Mortar with their plants and curation expertise!

Arguably the best vintage shop in SF. We love the whole idea behind this shop – the name says it all. Not only do they give used clothing a second life, but they do so with the utmost care and curation. Their motto is “more style, less waste” – something we can always get behind. The staff/owners, Delila, Dominique and Michael are always so helpful and lovely. They’ve got something good going on. Before you decide to get that new piece of clothing you think you want, check out ReLove first. Plus, you’ll be supporting a Black owned and operated business. Do the work – let’s be allies.

Proof Lab Station
This is a classic spot (at least for us!) but we had to put it as a part of this collection of shops. At the intersection of Highway 1 in Mill Valley, this is a perfect spot to stop after a long bike ride or to pick up some great surf, outdoor, or lifestyle wear. They’ve got a sweet collection of gifts too (you definitely wanted to buy that “Wilderness Essays by John Muir” book for your weekend warrior friend’s birthday). But on top of all this, Proof Lab has got such a great community. They regularly host events (during normal times) and they have recently collaborated with Hook Fish co and opened up a Beer Garden! Once restaurants are opening back up again, you will likely see the whole Sunski team hanging up there on those amazing Indian Summer days. You’ll find us, we’ll all be wearing our Sunskis 😉

There are definitely plenty more that are not listed here, but this will give you a taste for sure! Did you know that we have a store now too? We opened our Brick and Mortar on Chestnut St in October of 2019, and will be welcoming customers back in on June 15th 2020!
